The Utah Wild recently launched their first ultimate frisbee clinic that extended beyond the traditional ultimate community in collaboration with the Midvale Boys & Girls Club. The eight-week program will run through December and featured weekly one hour sessions that aimed to introduce the sport to third through fifth graders. The clinic was designed exclusively for the Midvale Boys & Girls to support the shared goal of expanding access to sports for youth in the area.

The clinic was coached by Wild staff and players, such as Eleanor Watchtel and Tyler Apsley, and focused on the basics of ultimate and skills like throwing, catching, and running. Participants were also given the opportunity to show off these new skills by competing in introductory 2v2 and 3v3 ultimate games.

The Wild's community-driven mission sat at the heart of the initiative that looked to further the growth of ultimate in the Mountain West alongside some of the team's core values such as community, leadership, and growth. The clinic also gave Wild staff and players the unique opportunity to connect directly with community members. By partnering with the Midvale Boys & Girls Club, the Wild was able to provide an introduction to ultimate to those that may not have encountered the sport otherwise.

"Ultimately, we hope these clinics plant a seed for these young kids as they pursue middle school team opportunities with the Utah Ultimate Disc Association," said Alex Palomino, Utah Wild board member.

By partnering with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, the Wild are investing in Utah communities and bringing ultimate to a whole new generation of athletes.
