WHY JOIN THE UTAH WILD BOARD?
A position on the board comes with a lot of responsibility as well as significant power to impact the direction of the organization at large. How do you know if you're ready or fit for this role? The 2022 board has put together some thoughts on this question.
Why We Do It:
-
Help improve equity in the Ultimate community and change your corner of the world!
-
By building relationships we are able to give back to our community, build up women and non binary athletes, and grow women's Ultimate across four states where there is not currently equal access and opportunity for athletes of all genders.
-
Everyone has the power to make change through collective action, and change is required in communities of all sizes to reach an equitable society. This is our corner of the world and we can help make it great.
-
-
Pay past mentorship forward and be a supportive community member for the next generation!
-
Many of us have been fortunate to have strong role models and mentors come before us in our local Ultimate communities. It is with great pride that we take on this responsibility and work to help move this community forward.
-
Everyone has a skill to contribute and can help give back!
-
-
Work with a value-aligned group!
-
It's not often you get to work with a group of individuals with a strong set of shared values. If you value community, inclusion and equity, leadership, being dynamic, environmentalism, and growth then this is the place for you to find like-minded individuals.
-
Bonus: we're fun!
-
-
Grow existing skills and learn new skills!
-
There are many ways to contribute to the Wild board, you can pick areas that interest you or play to your strengths to focus your energy. Passionate about growing youth ultimate? Focus on our outreach efforts. Pursuing a degree in finance? Focus on our budgeting and accounting processes.
-
In addition to playing to your strengths, you'll be exposed to a variety of other aspects of the organization just by being on the board so that you can learn new skills.
-
What We Have Learned:
-
This work is about more than just Ultimate
-
Sports have the ability to teach valuable, lifelong skills and they positively benefit people's lives everyday. While we may start with Ultimate, the work we do has the ability to reach far beyond the field.
-
-
Self-confidence
-
This work has helped us find our voices in the community and feel empowered to speak up for what we believe in.
-
-
This work is hard, it takes time, and it's worth investing in
-
We're three years in and still just getting started. There is so much room for growth but even at this phase the outcomes we've seen have been worth every tough choice, every dollar raised, and every hour spent.
