We're Hiring - Coaching Intern

The Utah Wild is in search of an individual to work with the Head and Assistant coaches (Bryce Merrill and Tania Reitz) with various coaching activities throughout the 2021 WUL Winter Cup and 2022 Inaugural WUL season on a part-time basis. This is a developmental position, no prior coaching experience required, experience with the sport of Ultimate highly recommended, and all applicants are encouraged. This role would be perfect for someone who does not want to be or is not able to be on the playing field, but is still interested in contributing to the Mountain West Ultimate community!

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learn from experienced Ultimate coaches on how to successfully coach elite level ultimate.

  • Meet regularly (primarily virtually) with Wild coaching staff to discuss team strategy, plan practices, and set goals for pods.

  • Attend local pod practices (potential locations include Salt Lake City, Boise, Bozeman, Fort Collins, Denver, or others), full team practice weekends in Salt Lake City, and assist Head and Assistant coaches with instruction.

  • Attend 2022 Tryouts, assist the selection committee with assessing tryout attendees, and help select a 2022 roster.

  • Schedule and Funding Permitting: attend the 2021 WUL Winter Cup and as many 2022 Regular Season Games as possible to act as a sideline coach, with instruction and guidance from the Head and Assistant coaches.

  • Help build out a digital/virtual/video playbook and practice resources, and help prepare game-day scouting reports and video analysis.

  • Develop Ultimate analysis, instructional, and leadership skills in order to feel prepared to coach Ultimate at elite levels in the future.


Position Term: October 1, 2021 - May 31, 2022


Compensation: The coaching intern will be provided a small stipend and be considered a contract employee of the Utah Wild. Other occasional perks such as travel reimbursement or merchandise will be available to this person.


Anticipated Time Commitment: On average, 1-2 hours per week. Additional time commitments during practice weekends, game weekends, the Winter Cup, and during tryouts.

  1. Sunday, August 15th at Midnight (MST): Deadline to fill out the application form.

  2. Friday, August 20th at Midnight (MST): Candidates will be asked to schedule an interview by this date.

  3. Monday August 23rd - Monday September 6th: Interviews with members of the Utah Wild Board and Coaching Staff.

  4. Friday September 10th by Midnight (MST): Offer will be extended by this date.

  5. Friday September 17th at Midnight (MST): Offer should be accepted by this date.
